SSL security on Chrome and Wibble Web design and development

The dominance of Google Crome today is well know, the browser is used by millions of people with a market share of over 50%.

On September 8th 2016 Google announced that sites that are not secured with a SSL certificate will be marked ‘not secure’ on Chrome 56 from January 2017. Chrome currently indicates standard HTTP connections with a neutral indicator in the address bar, this will change to a ‘not secure’ label and eventually to include a red warning triangle.

What is SSL?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private. You may notice that a site has an active SSL certificate with a green padlock in the address bar and the address beginning with https://.

SSL and Wibble.
Wibble have been promoting SSL among new customers for the last twelve months and predicted this move from Google for quite some time. Many of Wibble’s clients have already been secured via SSL. As well as a potential improvement in search engine results with Google, users are more assured and confident when using your site when they see the green padlock displayed on most browsers. Using SSL certificates is an important step in making the web a more secure place.
